Reflections on massage therapy
Notes on my experiences as a massage therapist
A client recently shared an experience that is relatable and tender. With tears in her eyes at the end of her 90 minute session, she described how emotional she feels when receiving massage. She even decided to forego receiving a massage that her partner gifted to her while on vacation because she didn’t want to deal with all of the feelings that it would bring up while she was in paradise. I completely understand how powerful massage can be in affecting not only our physical, but also our emotional bodies. I’m reminded of the books on my shelves, with titles like, The Issues are in the Tissues, The Body Keeps the Score, and The Pain We Carry. The wisdom in these books is vital as we understand that it’s impossible to disconnect our lived experiences from our physical bodies because they co-create our wholeness as human beings. Yoga philosophy describes the 5 Koshas: the physical, energetic, emotional, mental, and spiritual layers considered to be like sheaths around the body, that are always mingling and affecting each other. The Koshas are potent pathways for us to relate to and understand ourselves, and by doing so, to build capacity to weather the storms we encounter in life. I’m honored, humbled, and so grateful that I get to hold the sacred space for you to explore all the facets of your being. I’m here to help guide you to a deeper appreciation of the potential your life holds for healing and thriving.
