Yoga Philosophy

Yoga Philosophy states that we ultimately seek connection with a Supreme Consciousness.  It doesn’t matter if we have a specific name for this Creative Force or if we even simply recognize that there is an intelligence of the natural world to regenerate itself season after season.  Our longing to reunite with something larger than ourselves is innate, universal, and timeless. But because we see ourselves as separate from that Source, we continuously try to fulfill our need with external stimulation.  This causes restlessness and dissatisfaction, which leads to suffering.

The practice of yoga clarifies the misunderstanding that we have held as being separate, and we begin to see that we have always been and will always be connected.  With more practice, we find that the external stimulation is less fulfilling and is actually a distraction from our connection to Source.  We then create lasting contentment through regular, dedicated reconnection with Source.

That connection builds in us a realization of our own unique inner potential and allows us to express it in every area of our lives.  This is important because it brings our “everyday self” closer to our “ideal highest self”, where we interact with other humans, plants, and animals with respect and reverence.  We see the interconnectedness of all living beings, which means that we understand that we are not just making decisions for ourselves in the short-term, but that our actions have an impact on all those around us for a long time to come.
