Guided Meditation
Meditation is a mental practice of concentrated effort that brings us to a heightened level of spiritual awareness.
Some benefits of meditation include: improved respiratory, digestive, circulatory and immune systems; greater concentration and memory; and an overall sense of wellbeing and calm.
When I offer a guided meditation session, I begin by welcoming all the layers - the light and shadow sides - every part of the person that is present that day, in order to help us let down our defenses or preconceived notions about how a meditation practice might be. It’s not always “love and light” or “good vibes only”. Often, the shadow sides of ourselves come to the surface because they recognize they are in a safe, soothing space and the time to heal has arrived. Next, I invite the participant(s) to sit comfortably, eyes open or closed, and relax the body. I offer instructions on deep, diaphragmatic breathing, releasing tension from the muscles, and quieting the mind. Sometimes, I guide the practitioner(s) through simple, fluid movements which increase the circulation of oxygen and prana, or I may introduce a mantra, which is a short, repetitive sound that harmonizes their frequency with the frequency of the universe. I may invoke the images and qualities of the elements of nature, such as bringing to mind a tree and its roots or a river and its flowing water. Then we have a few moments of no talking - I just hold space for them to have their own experience. I close with a gentle invitation to return to the present space and time, offering words of blessings and gratitude. This practice is available to all levels of participants, with no prior experience necessary, simply a willingness to learn and a dedication to the practice.
